"B" War/Action Movies
« on: December 31, 2014, 01:59:15 am »
Figured since this section has been dead for a while, I'd try something out.

Most of the war/action movie reviews here have been of the mainstream, A-list movies or shows. But what of the B flicks? The "so bad they're great" films? There's quite a few of these movies out there that may not have great acting or special effects, but are still great fun. Guilty pleasures. After all, a movie doesn't have to be good to be awesome!

I'll start with a few of my favorites:

Strike Commando (1987):

While often listed as one of the many First Blood part 2 (aka Rambo 2) rip offs, this one is not an A to Z copy, more like an A to R to J to Q to Z to G copy, with a bit of Thunderdome and even Terminator in the mix, sometimes it almost feels like an original story. While there are some dull moments between action sequences, this is probably one of the better Reb Brown films.

War Bus (1986):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QK0eGklPxM
A small group of Christian missionaries come under attack by the Viet Cong and are forced to flee in an old school bus. Along the way they are joined by a group American Special Forces/Marines (movie isn't very clear on this) and together they desperately fight to make it to safety.

Mercenary Fighers (1988):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moz7SSDBhoE
From IMDB: The president of an African country wants to boost his economy with a new dam. He ignores the protests of the tribes in the flooded region, so they declare rebellion. To avoid bad publicity, the president doesn't use his army, but hires four international mercenaries, who shall find tribes leader Kuruba and smother the protest. However after learning about the tribes motivation, the Vietnam veterans T.J. and Cliff realize how they're being used and reconsider.

Iron Sky (2012):

Nazi's from the dark side of the moon. What else is there to say?
