Where to find a replacement striker spring for Ares Aw338?
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:33:17 pm »
Title says it all.
I need yo find a spring to replace the striker spring of my ares Aw338
I have had no luck trying to find one and I'd like to pull this off the wall and use it asap.
Even a place to order a "non" airsoft spring that would work with modifications would be great help
PTW's are just like Ferraris. Look great, cost tons of money, and can be completely dominated by things half the price

I wish I could afford BF3. I buy groceries and illegal slave-children instead.

found a parts list for a Star aw338...not familiar with either, so don't hate.

What size is it? Menard's started carrying various sizes of compression and extension springs lately.

Well, Menard did have the right sized spring, but it was too weak.
ill be ordering some springs from fastenal.com to see if they work. I found one that is rated at 22 lb/inch so I hope that's strong enough   :P

You can use one from a M700. Used the G&G upgraded spring when I had my Ares 338 tapped for HPA. You will need to cut it down a little bit.

I'd try going straight to the source. Have you tried talking to Ares or ZShot yet? I'd send them both emails, they are both very helpful! Good luck!

(PM if they say that you need to go through a vendor to get the part. I can help with that.)

ARES is most certainly  not the most helpful. You can ask Pie on that one, he ordered a trigger part for my gun awhile ago, and still hasnt received and ARES has no replyed to his attempts to ask why the hell he hasnt gotten it.

A friend waited about 9 months before getting his replacement gearbox for his M14.

For the 338 striker spring, I used the G&G tanaka M700 spring and cut 2 coils off of it.  We did this to Grifter's AW338 for HPA and it worked wonderfully.  Now, you can cut a few more coils off as you are not running HPA.

Nathan at zshot.com was actually very helpful. He sent me two new stronger striker springs and valves for free.

I agree! Zshot is the Ares distributor, btw... Dealing directly with Ares, it certainly helps if you have a tax id number...

Thanks guys. But it turns out the little return spring was mis aligned causing too much resistance when being pushed down. Took it out, clipped the bad coil and now its all good
