Hi I'm from the northern suburbs of Chicago.

I'm a long time woods paintballer (although I have spent quality time playing in the "Town of Bedlam" at CPX and loved it) but have been out of it for some time. I want to learn more about airsoft and maybe start playing in the area.

I currently only have some cheapie off-the-shelf spring-operated airsoft guns (Sig Sauer P226 [licensed Sig], HK MP-5 [Firepower SRT-SD3], HK G36 [Crossman Stinger R32]), but am interested in getting better ones.

I'm over 21, so I have several actual firearms/real steel too, but I can't really practice force on force with those.

Thanks for the welcome ZERO, I'm in the Glenbrook area (Glenview-Northbrook) so I'm just out of city limits (gotta head south through Niles and on the other side is Chicago).

I'm looking for a bolt-action rifle to start as I want to be able to do some backyard plinking and I'm of the (mistaken?) impression that the bolt-action rifles are more accurate.    I'm not liking the "spotter" requirement for in-game use of "sniper" rifles though... so I may just go AEG (although I dread the increase in complexity -- which to me reads as a decrease in reliability)...

I'm considering the Swiss Arms Black Eagle M6S and already bought (and returned) a UTG Gen5 M324 (shame it was broken - seals or something else internal).

I will stake my SPR AEG against any bolt action in terms of reliability any day.

There is nothing to be afraid about AEG's.  As for the spotter/sniper rule.  It applies to rifles shooting over 400 FPS.  It is there for a safety rule as any rifle above 400 FPS cannot be used to engage targets within 100'.

Thanks for the clarifications Chavez.  I've got a soft spot for springers, so we'll see what I start out with, but I've already inquired about an Echo 1 something or other we'll see how that works out.

Armaments should be required,  maybe even get a tax deduction for being an armed household?

Half-crazy? Depends who's making the assessment, I ride motorcycles and hit the (gun) range, to some I am crazy.  I'm glad I scare them.  ;D

I've lost count as to how many people Denny has shot >_>;

Most AEGs lack a blowback/recoil function so, with negligible recoil, firing won't change your trajectory. A well tuned and upgraded AEG shooting <401 fps w/ .2s can reach out and touch someone at over 200'-250'.  If you spend considerably more to upgrade a springer, it can go consistently to 250' with a max range of approx 300'.  For the cost of that 300' capable rifle, you can make the 200' capable AEG and get spare mags/gear/batteries/smart charger.

OK so I just picked up a used one of these:

Only difference is mine has a PDW-style folding stock and is a bit worn here and there.  I have to get some .2g BBs to try this out, and maybe get it chrono'd.

So far I'm geeked about it :D  I think I'll still get my bolt action toy, but now it's become less of an issue.
