A&K SVD Dragunov Problem
« on: August 19, 2010, 03:00:01 pm »
My friend ordered one and hes complaining how hard it is to cock the gun. For other people that have the gun, was it hard to cock when you got it? Anyone know any solutions on how to make it easier to use? I read the reviews and they said it was easy to cock, so maybe a fluke?
But any suggestions are helpful.

dont know about the bolt problem, what exactly is wrong with it? is it hard to pull back or is he just kinda weak? haha but as for a scope you can just look on Evike or ASGI, they both have SVD style scopes but im sure someone will have a link for a real steel one thats cheaper

The bolt may just seem hard to pull. The reason most people say the bolt is hard to pull back is because of the design of the bolt. Unlike a traditional bolt action rifle which you use your full hand to cock it, the SVD bolt only allows the use of 2 to 3 fingers. This makes it seem harder to pull back.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem, I'm just saying that compared to a traditional rifle it WILL seem harder to pull back. The only 2 fixes to this is to replace the AEG spring with a weaker one (which will result in a drop of FPS) or cut down the bolt return spring. The bolt return spring makes the bolt return to the forward position after pulling it back. If you cut it down you will see a SMALL difference in the amount of force it takes to cock the gun. Unfortunately it will also allow your spring to rattle back and forth when the gun is cocked. (I haven't done this to mine, and I would not recommend doing it)

I read the reviews and they said it was easy to cock,
Most of the reviews that I read before purchasing mine said quite the contrary. They advised the use of gloves because of the fact that the gun IS hard to cock and will hurt your fingers after a while.

This should help with the pulling.

Qdawg, a lot of the people buying a springer SVD are small people with shallow pockets, though.

It has a heavy spring, yes, because it's a high-velocity springer.

Unfortunately, the real-steel version of the scope will cost substantially more than the surrogate. The PSO-1 style is pricey.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

People who said hes weak

I dont think hes weak considering hes bigger than me (LOL picture above)

2nd, I read like 3 reviews so i didnt really look into, so it probably just hard to cock.

3rd, thanks for the help, ill tell him.
